Pumpkins

When I think of Pumpkins I think of Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Harvest...... But did you know that pumpkin's are one of the best Super Foods available to us?  Pumpkins are rich in carotenoids, beta-carotene, fiber, Vitamin C, potassium and tryptophan (found in Prozac).

1.) Pumpkins help Keep  our Eyesight Sharp
***A cup of cooked, mashed pumpkin contains more than 200% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin A, which aides vision, according to the National Institutes of Health.

2.) Pumpkins Aid Weight Loss
***Pumpkins are a source of fiber, 3 grams per 1 cup serving and only 49 calories, it can help keep you feeling full for a longer period of time with fewer calories.

3.) Pumpkin Seeds Can Help Your Heart
Nuts and seeds, including those of pumpkins, are naturally rich in certain plant-based chemicals called phytosterols that have been shown in studies reduce LDL or "Bad Cholesterol"

4.)  Pumpkins May Reduce Cancer Risk
Like their cousin the sweet potato, the carrot and the butternut squash (to name a few), pumpkins boast the antioxidant beta-carotene, which may play a role in cancer prevention, according to the National Cancer Institute.

5.) Pumpkins Protects our Skin
The same free-radical-neutralizing powers of the carotenoids in pumpkin that may keep cancer cells at bay can also help keep the skin wrinkle-free, Health magazine reported.

Have a beautiful day!
